Project challenges and requirements

In 2018, Delmerion realized the need to redesign its web shop. They needed a new web shop that would shape the company’s brand as a leading retailer of luxury cosmetic products on the Croatian market. The biggest challenge was the user interface design. The choice of colours, typography, and visual elements represented the key in designing the UI of the new Delmerion web shop.

The next challenge was to organize products and categories in a way that they are easily available and that the customers can easily find products that they looking for. This was no small feat since Delmerion has more than 500 products in their range. Additionally, the range is constantly expanding with new products and categories.

Delivered e-commerce solution

The new Delmerion web shop was launched in March 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing the overall growth of online commerce, both globally and in Croatia. The web shop is built on our bespoke Gauss Box platform, which, along with the E-commerce module, offers other modules to manage an organization, such as Project Management, Sales Management, E-learning, and other modules. In the E-Commerce platform, an administrator can process incoming orders, configure payments and delivery methods, modify product catalogue and manage sales tools.

The web shop redesign resulted in a significant improvement of the user interface. The choice of colours, typography, and graphical elements brought delmerion.hr to what it really is – a place for all luxury cosmetic brand lovers.

Navigation design to improve product visibility

To improve the categorization of over 500 products, a main navigation with a dropdown menu was designed. The products are sorted into categories with 3 levels of depth. By navigating the dropdown menu, the customers can reach a category they are interested in with one click. The dropdown menu also contains some of the featured products so web shop visitors can access these products directly from there.

Product filtering

Considering the main categories contain over 100 products each, it was necessary to design the filters well. That way the customers can narrow down the criteria and ger a filtered list of products. The customers can filter products by various criteria such as price, brand, product type, package size, etc.

Product presentation

The product presentation proved to be extraordinarily important during the design phase. While product photos are the focus of the presentation, it was necessary to come up with a way of how to present the customers the product information that might interest them. That was accomplished with detailed product descriptions and product ingredient lists.

An additional element of interaction with the customers was presented in the form of product reviews. Every registered user can leave a review of the product, regardless if they bought it on the web shop or in one of the physical stores.

Search

In case the customers cannot find what they are looking for by navigating the web shop, we have developed search functionality. The customers can search for products by typing in the following criteria:

  • Product name
  • Product description
  • SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
  • Brand
  • Tag

In case the search term does not exist, the customers are offered other products that the administrator has designated as promotional products for such cases. This way the customers as never presented with empty search results, but are suggested which products to research and purchase by the web shop.

Optimization and refinement

Even after launching the new web shop, the project wasn’t finished. By following customer feedback, we realized there is room for significant improvements in user experience. This primarily refers to checkout process optimization. A visual redesign of the shopping cart and the billing process was made. Links have been removed and the navigation has been “stripped” on both pages. That way, some elements that may discourage customers from completing the billing process had been removed.

The billing process has also been simplified. A visual depiction of steps that customers need to go through to complete the order was added, so they can always be aware of what they need to do next. A summary of entered data has also been added. That way customers know what data they entered at every step and they do not have to click back in case they want to check their data.

At the time of launch, Delmerion web shop used the HT PayWay system for card payments. However, eventually, the billing system was changed. Integration with CorvusPay online credit card payment system was made. This brought greater stability and easier card payments on the web shop.
